Dog Days in Linville Falls

Most days I wake up early and head out to check out how many weird feathered friends I have at the bird feeder.  I’m usually greeted by the cooing mourning doves, the busy yellow finches, and sometimes by a very loud and annoying piliated woodpecker!  I used to send them scurrying, but now I just nod “good morning” and head to see if my food has arrived in my bowl. 

The next drama is whether my neighborhood friends - the squirrels - have decided to come to my house for a free breakfast.  I don’t mind the visit you understand, it’s sneaking my food that gets me off on the wrong foot. WOOF! WOOF!After breakfast, I check to see anyone at the Lodge will take me up on my offer for a walk to the Falls.  Besides getting my back scratched and eating, of course, this is my favorite thing to do!

My new best pal is Shadow the cat. She came here this summer and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that in the beginning. I terrorized her for a day or two and then decided she was pretty cute.  So, now we respectfully live together and occasionally we snuggle up together for the evening.  She’s actually pretty cool for a cat...she caught a baby rabbit the other day and was gutsy enough to deliver it to Wendy’s front door.  Not a good thing....but hey, she is a cat, after all.
