The Linville Falls Area has a lot to offer the outdoor enthusiast.  Linville Gorge Wilderness (deepest cut in the earth's surface east of the Grand Canyon) and Linville Falls - both federal forest and park lands - are within walking distance of our Lodge.  Linville Gorge offers one of the nation's most noted trail systems and we have detailed information on the Trail Guide section of this site.   Within minutes are Wilson's Creek and Harper's Creek, two popular outdoor recreation areas.  Trout fishing is abundant!  Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak in Eastern America, and Roan Mountain, the world's largest natural Rhododendron gardens are only 45 minutes away.

Our central location in the NC High Country which makes it easy to drive to many of the best attractions in the area.  Major attractions like Grandfather Mountain, home of the "Mile High Swinging Bridge" and one of the South's finest wildlife habitats; Linville Caverns, NC's only commercial underground caverns; and the 62 year-old Tweetsie Railroad, the state's original family theme park, are only minutes away. Nearby, Gemstone mining is prolific in the Little Switzerland Area and the South's finest ski slopes are in the Banner Elk and Blowing Rock area.  Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing is only 4 miles away and is a great winter attraction for families.

The area is rich with local artisans and crafters, know both nationally and internationally.  World-renown Penland School of Crafts and the resort tow of Blowing Rock are only a half-hour's drive away.  The new Linville Falls Winery is just 1 mile north on US Hwy 221.
